Squirrels are fine in the park or the woods; the trouble is, they don’t always stay there. Squirrels will happily make a home in the attic of a house, and once they’re inside, the problems start. Like all rodents, squirrels must constantly gnaw in order to keep their front teeth from growing too long, so they will gnaw on exposed beams and have been known to chew through electrical wires. As well as the danger of this, there is the noise to deal with; a family of squirrels running around in your attic in the early hours of the morning is louder than you would expect!
Squirrels will also tear up the insulation in an attic to use as nesting material.
Getting rid of squirrels
Getting rid of squirrels is a matter of making structural modifications to keep them out. However, this has to be done right. You don’t want to trap any adult squirrels or babies inside the house! At Active Pest Solutions, we use a combination of humane traps and exclusion methods, allowing the squirrels to leave unharmed but ensuring they can’t get back in.
